Wild Yellow Original Painting on Paper

DAY 9/30 'Wild Yellow'- I found these yellow flowers down at the public marina beside the seawall. I don't know the name of them (hence my title of 'wild yellow') but I think they're actually considered a weed... regardless I think they're really beautiful.

This painting changed a lot from the first concept. I had more background details but took them out as they were a distraction. The yellow flower part was also difficult to capture as they were so brightly yellow they just looked like a blob of yellow, so I took some artistic liberty and accentuated some of the petals with extra shading and highlights. Sometimes you sit down to capture a view or a flower in paint and don't realize the hurdles you'll encounter, and then how to solve and jump over those hurdles. That's the joy and challenge of making art. 

In the end, I think the feeling of this piece is very inspirational with the monolithic stock of greenery rising up back-lit against the dark background. I hope you find them inspiring too!!
